We check every fire door you ask us to, one by one, and give you a clear, detailed report, backed up by photo evidence, with a pass or fail for every door. We never sell the repairs, so every finding is there because it’s true.

Why it matters
A fire door only works if it’s in good order.
A fire door has one job: to hold back fire and smoke long enough for people to get out. It can only do that if it closes properly and seals the gap when it matters. Doors get kicked, wedged open, painted over and “fixed” with the wrong parts. An inspection is the regular check that catches that before it becomes a problem.
We go through every fire door you ask us to, one by one, and record what we find against the same checks every time. We do our utmost to gain access to every door to ensure it gets inspected.
Just taken on a building? Start with a full survey of every fire door, then keep it up to date with regular inspections. See our fire door surveys.
The checks
Nine checks on every door.
Every door is checked against nine key areas, from gaps and seals to closers, hinges and certification, so nothing is missed.
- Gaps
- Seals
- Closers
- Hinges
- Certification
A report built to be used, not filed away.
Because we don’t do remedial works, we’ve got nothing to gain from a fail. You choose who does the work, and you can send our report to the contractors of your choice for like-for-like quotes, usually without another site visit.
- Every door photographed, referenced and located
- A pass or fail for each door, with the reason
- A clear recommendation for every defect
- Sent electronically, in as little as 48 hours

See fire door surveys →Who it’s for
For the people responsible for fire doors.
If you’re responsible for a building with fire doors, the law expects them to be kept in good working order. That usually means the onus is on the “Responsible Person”: often the owner, managing agent, employer or whoever controls the building.

The rules
What the rules actually say.
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 says the Responsible Person must keep fire safety equipment and devices maintained, in efficient working order and in good repair (article 17). Fire doors are part of that. For buildings with two or more flats, the Fire Safety Act 2021 made it clear this includes the front doors of the flats as well as the doors in the shared parts.
How often? There isn’t one number for every building. For blocks of flats over 11 metres, the Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 set minimum check frequencies (see our Regulation 10 page). For other buildings, your fire risk assessment should set how often doors are checked, based on how much use and abuse they get.

FAQ
Questions, answered.
How often should fire doors be inspected?
It depends on the building. For blocks of flats over 11 metres, communal fire doors must be checked at least every 3 months and flat entrance doors at least every 12 months (on a best endeavours basis). For other buildings, your fire risk assessment should set the frequency, based on how heavily the doors are used.
Who carries out the inspections?
Inspections are carried out by a FireQual-accredited inspector. Pronto Surveys is based in Greater Manchester and works nationwide.
Does Pronto fix the doors that fail?
No. We don’t do remedial works, which is exactly why our reports are impartial. You can send the report to any contractor you like for quotes.
How quickly are reports delivered?
In as little as 48 hours after the inspection, sent electronically.
